Spence

"God, help me make it through this night, I've been smothered with lies."
-Walk Away

Let me explain how I came across this little band from Los Angeles before I get into the nitty gritty. Yes, it's important. I'm all about a band that's real, and a band that's made up of down-to-earth members who like to get to know the people who listen to their music. I received a rather quirky, but warm message on facebook from Spence's vocalist, and he asked me to check out the band but not before we had a nice conversation about Papa Roach and small town venues. I'm not the only future fan he's stopped to talk to before introducing to his band either. This made me extremely happy, because it's rare to find someone as friendly and personable as one mister Daniel David. It helped that the music was awesome, too. I won't lie.

Spence is made up of Daniel David (as previously mentioned) on mic and guitar, John Huldt on guitar, Kelly Mead on bass, and Michael Laylee on drums. This is a band that's very involved with their fans, and that's key to success of course. A band is it's live show, and without devoted fans there's no show. Their modest fan base is full of most obviously devoted people, and I'm definitely one of those people.

Their sound is very guitar driven like a nice, typical rock band but is accented with just the right amount of synthesizers and electronic reverb. Daniel has a strong but oddly gentle voice that is powerful but never overbearing, he brings just the right energy to the music, just enough grunge to tease.

Get Your Freak On

I am part a minor, part a major chord,
I am one huge ambivalent smorgasbord

Freak Kitchen, in simple terms, is a heavy metal-rock conglomeration that hails from Sweden. Look a little deeper, and you find that their music (in the band's own words) is a “corny little heavy-pop-rock-latin-world-jazz-avant-garde-metal-blues-record straight from hell.”  How could you not love a group that proudly proclaim I am a Viking straight from hell? Freak Kitchen has seven albums to their name, with their most recent release being Land of the Freaks in 2010. They are currently wrapping up their first-ever North American tour, which will end on September 11th at The Hangout in Florence, SC. Check out their stats below.

No Resolve

"Even though it's been awhile, I forgot how much we'd moved on." - Bleed

No Resolve is an alternative rock band out of Detroit. It is made up of members Oscar Pegorraro on the mic, Jason Hatmaker with rhythm, Johnny Luv on lead guitar, Derek Bjornson on drums, and bassist Dennis Patterson. This band is made up of all extremely talented musicians, but what seems to keep me listening is their ability to have a 'new' sound with every song, while maintaining what makes them unique to start with.

Most bands you come across have that signature preference, they have the ability to move you in one way more than another. These guys though? I can’t decide what they’re better at!  Every song brings something new to the table, though you can still hear a new song and say “That’s No Resolve, no doubt”.

Of course, that also makes it difficult for me to pick just one song to demonstrate the level of awesomeness these five guys bring to the music scene. I picked my personal favorite for good measure, but I highly suggest you add them on facebook and check out the rest of their music. They currently have no upcoming shows listed on their website, which is all the more reason to add them and keep your eyes open for a good show!
